"Dead" preemie wakes up in hospital cooler

Is it a medical error or a medical miracle. The hospital would like to imply the latter, since that's better for PR than suggesting that the docs really don't know when a person is dead, or that a cost containment effort is in place. Treatment in a newborn intensive care unit is expensive.

This story comes from Galilee, where a woman 'miscarried' a baby at five months. The little girl weighs 610 ounces, which is within the range sustainable at a good NICU in the U.S. This little kid was pronounced dead, and placed in the morgue. When the mom wanted to see the body one more time, the baby was retrieved from the cooler and found to be breathing. She was rushed to intensive care. It's hoped that the cooling reduced oxygen needs for this little kid, and that she might survive.

Here's the story link, to the Jerusalem Post, since this nice blogger program isn't operating as usual, just now: http://www.jpost.com /servlet/Satellite?cid=1218710394816&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
